Our Definition of Hospitality
Hospitality is defined in the Oxford Dictionary as "the friendly and generous welcome of friends or strangers," and it is this definition with the emphasis on friendliness and generosity that we have adopted. Hosts in The B&B Book have the justified reputation of being generous with their time, energy and resources.
|
|
Freedom for Hosts
Running a B&B does not necessarily mean you need to be at home all the time. It is good policy to give your contact details to your guests. If you plan to be away for a short break invite a locum to run your B&B or redirect calls to a mobile phone.
You are also entitled to refuse a guest. Explain that it is not convenient and recommend alternative accommodation such as another B&B.

Quality Assurance - Committed to Generous Hospitality
As hosts, we offer an extremely effective and inexpensive way of catering for tourists, while earning a modest income and meeting new friends.
A common feature which we have adopted at The Bed & Breakfast Book is the "friendly welcome of guests" and "no unpleasant surprises".
If you run a country cottage or luxury retreat that has no TV or mobile reception it could be interpreted as an unpleasant surprise and is against a hosts' interest to give a surprise because negative comments can result. So you should make full disclosure of any limitations. You can be creative and make a feature out of any limitation ie "Perfect solitude, no mobile phone reception." Regarding pets, some guests do not wish to share their getaway with pets but many do, so again make a feature out of any lively animals you have. "Friendly dogs who love to play with our guests."
"In choosing to include your accommodation in The Bed & Breakfast Book you guarantee Generous Hospitality with the following standards."
